Island Time Begins
We touched down in San Juan at 7:04 pm, and the warm Caribbean air instantly melted away the Denver chill. After grabbing our sleek Ford Escape from Alamo (thanks for the smooth rental process!), we fueled up with a classic American dinner at Golden Corral. A quick stop at Walmart for essentials, and we were on our way to our home for the week: Park Royal Homestay Club Cala in Humacao.
Exploring the Island
The sunrise over the ocean from our balcony was a breathtaking welcome. Park Royal offered the perfect blend of relaxation and exploration. We spent the morning lounging by the pool, soaking up the sun and sipping on refreshing piña coladas (because, when in Puerto Rico!).

Day 5 Lenka is leaving
The following days were a whirlwind of exploration. We wandered the cobblestone streets of Old San Juan, marveling at the pastel-colored buildings and soaking up the rich history. We climbed the Castillo San Felipe del Morro, a massive 16th-century fort guarding the entrance to San Juan Bay. We ventured to the Vieques islands, smaller paradises with untouched beaches and laid-back vibes. We snorkeled with colorful fish and soaked up the sun on pristine white sand.

El Morro: Puerto Rico’s Guardian
Castillo San Felipe del Morro, or El Morro, stands watch over San Juan Bay. Begun in 1539, this mighty Spanish fort transformed from a tower into a six-level defense system over 250 years. Its cannons and labyrinthine design deterred countless attacks.
Today, El Morro is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Explore its chambers, dungeons, and imagine the soldiers who once guarded here. Breathtaking views and a vibrant atmosphere make El Morro a must-see in Puerto Rico.

Day 8 Saturday Farewell to Paradise
All too soon, it was time to say goodbye to Puerto Rico. We returned our trusty Ford Escape to Alamo with a heavy heart (and a car full of souvenirs!). Our flight back to Denver was bittersweet, filled with memories of turquoise waters, lush rainforests, and the warmth of the Puerto Rican people.
Until next time, Puerto Rico! You stole a piece of our hearts with your beauty and charm.
